Dual Immersion
The Foussat Dual Language Immersion program nurtures a vibrant learning community in which students from diverse backgrounds speak, read and write in Spanish and English and participate in multicultural studies and experiences as part of their education. Highly qualified teachers use a curriculum based on state standards. Students acquire biliteracy, exemplifying language and academic proficiency.
Students enter the program in Kindergarten and can continue through 8th grade and then follow a pathway in high school. In high school, they will have opportunities to expand their Spanish skills or learn a third language. Students can potentially earn the distinctive State Seal of Biliteracy on their HS diploma, certifying attainment of a high level of literacy and fluency in two or more languages.
90/10 Immersion Model in K-5
The first number refers to the percentage of time spent in the target language (Spanish) and the second number to the percentage of time in English. In the 90/10 model, the amount of English-language instruction increases as the students progress through the grades.
